“北京2008年奥运会纪念金盘”是经北京奥组委授权的于2006年12月15日发行的“北京2008年奥运会特许商品”，是百年奥运史上的首枚金盘。该项目由中国金币总公司发行，沈阳造币厂铸造，中国金币深圳经销中心总经销。

　奥运金盘分为2008克金盘和100克金盘两个规格，均采用纯度为99.9%的黄金为原材料(Au.999)，运用国际先进的造币技术经典打造。

　北京2008年奥运会纪念金盘重量为2008克，直径为200.8毫米，这两个数字共同代表着北京2008年奥运会的主题纪念意义；全球限量发行29枚，象征着北京2008年第29届奥运会。2008克“奥运金盘”嵌在水晶玻璃内，外加以金属铜扣加固，置放在手工雕刻的鸡血石底座上。金盘以及所有配件均可收纳在一个采用紫檀木手工雕刻的木箱内。为满足广大奥运纪念品收藏爱好者的需求，发行方同时推出重量为100克的“奥运金盘”，其发行量8000套，直径为56毫米，象征着中国56个民族共同企盼奥运的美好愿望。该金盘镶嵌在特别定做的直径为200.8毫米的玲珑瓷盘中央，盘的底座是由紫檀木手工雕刻而成。

　“奥运金盘”的正面是参照万年前中国古岩画“太阳神”的图形构成，将金盘分成中心及周围等多个区域。在奥运金盘的中心地带，七龙环绕下的奥运会徽——舞动的北京记录着一个国家的荣誉。与中心交相辉映的八大区，专家们经过积极深入研究，决定从中国古代体育项目中选取最具代表意义的图案，参照文物中的图形进行绘制，涉及了射箭、技击、投掷等多个体育项目。“奥运金盘”的背面则采用古代皇家建筑天坛祈年殿为中心图案，天津历史博物馆所藏距今2500多年前的最早的养身气功文物《行气铭玉杖首》铭文环绕其中，将中国古老传统的文化尽藏其中，奥运题材收藏潜力巨大，此套藏品都已经被收藏了，一套难求，**收藏价值。
